IN SCOPE

17th January – 22nd February 2025, Thursday – Sunday, 12 - 6pm
Hypha Studios, Euston Tower, 286 Euston Road, NW1 3DP

In Scope pieces together a ‘sculptural ecosystem’, fusing together insights from nature’s hidden systems and symbioses across many scales.
Working across a range of media, from lighting and living furniture to immersive installations, the exhibition draws the viewer’s attention to life’s delicate balance, from the smallest cellular structures of Peter James’s Bioactive Furniture to the vast ecosystems they inhabit, the subject of Kerrie O’Leary’s oceanic kinetic works.
By examining these nested systems in nature, In Scope cultivates new reflections about their entangled early origins and the interdependence between the smallest living components and the larger systems they support. Combining ancient elements like clay and sand with modern innovations such as rheoscopic fluid and printable wood fibres, the exhibition merges old and new materials to strengthen the crosstalk between human creativity and our lesser-heard natural world.

ECO SHOWBOAT

1 Windmill Lane, Dublin, September 2023
Commissioned for the Eco Show Boat Project, funded by The Irish Arts Council
Brief installation video

372.5 ~ Dublin Bay is a visualisation of the effortless distribution of water during the 6 hour tidal period. Using tidal charts from the Dublin Bay where The River Liffey meets the Irish Sea, the installation uses a system of pulleys and weights inspired by the historical methods of tidal measurement to recreate its current behaviour.  This piece is a continuation of research into hyperobjects and how abstract data can transform using technology to make natures complexities tangible. Also exhibited in St James. Hatcham Church here

"NY Sea"

This work uses historic recordings of the NYC river levels in conjunction with storm flood water predictions to communicate the vulnerability of the New York subway system. Merging her curiosity for systems and physical computing components, the artist has manipulated the complex data into a kinetic sculpture that forces the viewer to contemplate the strength of nature and question their existence in the anthropocentric era.

SPECTACLE FOR LATER

The Rio Cinema, London, November 2022

Using wave data collected from a weather station on the West Coast of Ireland, the corners of the fabric are tilted using micro-servos. The degree of rotation is determined by the wave heights. The shadows created by the movement of the reflective material hopes to connect people to the sea when they cannot physically get there.
